Taylor Psychotherapy offers treatment and evaluation for a variety of conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, grief, family and marital difficulties, anger control problems, child behavior problems, Tourette’s/tic disorders, etc. Individual, marital, and family sessions are available immediately. We work with adults, adolescents and children.

COVID-19 Notice:

During this Covid-19 crisis, we are still able to see you in the office, or more safely for you and us, by HIPPA Compliant Video-conferencing. If you do choose to be seen in the office, please wear a mask covering you mouth and nose, and maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and non-family members. We disinfect commonly touched surfaces frequently, but cannot assure that you will not be exposed to coronavirus in our office.

Ethics

Amos Wolf, Ph.D. and Sherry Whatley, PH.D. are bound by the ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association, and by the guidelines of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. In rare cases where the ethical guidelines and the legal standards of the state of Texas may conflict, the law will be followed, with an effort to remain as true as possible to the intentions of the ethical guidelines. If you feel the ethical or legal guidelines have been violated in any way, you are encouraged to contact the Psychology Board Complaint Hotline at 1-800-821-3205.

Background Training and Experience

Amos Wolf, Ph.D.:

  • Obtained his B.S. in 1989 from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS.
  • Obtained his M.A. in 1993 from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill with a master’s thesis on “Control Appraisals, Coping Strategies, and Psychological symptoms”.
  • Obtained his Ph.D. in 1997 from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill with a doctoral dissertation on “Managing the Syndrome of Psychosis, Intermittent Hyponatremia, and Polydipsia: Evaluation of a Behavioral Treatment Component”.
  • Completed his Internship at Austin State Hospital in Austin Texas in 1995.
  • Provided psychological services at Bluebonnet Trails CMHMRC from 1995 to 2003. These services included individual and group therapy, diagnostic evaluations, psychological testing, development and provision of rehabilitation services, clinical trainings for staff, and supervision of interns.
  • Has trained and has extensive experience using Dialectical Behavior Therapy for treating Borderline Personality disorder.
  • Has both Level I and Level II training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and finds this very helpful in many cases of trauma.
  • Has been trained in Critical Incident Stress Management.
  • Has training and experience using the Collaborative Problem-Solving techniques in helping explosive, non-compliant children.
  • Has specific training and experience utilizing the John Gottman, Ph.D. research-based model of Marital/Relationship Therapy.
  • Gained experience and training in working with older adults in a nursing home setting while working with Senior Connections of Austin throughout 2003.
  • Completed a 450 hour Post-Graduate training program in psychopharmacology through Texas A&M University.

Sherry Whatley, Ph.D.:

  • Obtained her B.S. in 1983 from University of Texas San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas.
  • Obtained M.A. in 1992 from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas with a master’s thesis on “Suicidal Ideation in College Students”.
  • Obtained her Ph.D. in 1996 from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas with a doctoral dissertation on “A Longitudinal Study of Stress and Coping Processes in College Women”.
  • Completed her Internship at Southwestern Medical School and Terrell State Hospital in Dallas, Texas in 1994.
  • Completed her Post-doctoral Training at Austin state Hospital in Austin, Texas in 1995.
  • Provided Psychological services at Giddings State School from 1996 through 2006. These services included group, individual, and family therapy, crisis diagnostic intervention, evaluations, psychological testing, clinical trainings for staff, and supervision of interns.
  • Has Level I and Level II training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and has been trained to use EMDR with children.
  • Has training and experience utilizing the John Gottman, Ph.D. research-based model of Marital/Relationship Therapy.
  • Has training and experience in working with children and adolescents, including the following: grief interventions, coping skills, cognitive behavioral interventions, problem-solving, skills development, anger management, family therapy, and assessment and treatment of ADHD in children.
